Postman is a stand alone app for calling REST endpoints. Postman is located at https://www.getpostman.com/
Open Postman, click Import and import the folder Postman that is located in the API Project.
Alternatively, you can download these files individually, copy the urls, or copy the text and import into Postman:
Global values are not included in the postman files so this is where the username and password are kept. Click the environments drop down and then Manage Environments.
Click the Global button and set your username and password for the user account you will be connecting as.
This Voat project contains three environments:
You can switch between the environments easily which helps with testing and debugging.
Each environment contains a Public API key you need to specify in order to call the Voat API. Each environment will have a seperate key. Open up the environment you are using and copy/paste your Public API key into this field.
You can ignore the access_token as this is set automatically upon authentication in Postman.
Postman is setup to execute and retrieve a token from the API. Once you execute this routine, Postman is configured to save the returned token value for all subsequent calls into the API using the selected environment.
The Voat API requires a specific header values to be set. The Api-Key header is required for every call into the API. If you are creating new endpoint requests add the Api-Key header to the request.
The Authorization header is required for every endpoint that requires authentication.
The Postman setup is now complete.
Thank you for developing with the Voat API!
